WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (WABC) — Debris fell onto a passing car in Washington Heights on Wednesday morning, causing major problems for drivers through the evening commute.
It happened in the westbound lanes of the Trans-Manhattan Expressway, which links the Cross-Bronx Expressway to the George Washington Bridge, just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
One person driving a Subaru was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. They are said to have minor injuries.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said temporary repairs are being completed overnight and westbound lanes leading to the George Washington Bridge lower level will reopen by the morning rush hour on Thursday.
Crews were seen chipping away at loose concrete Wednesday night, then installing netting above.
The incident marks the second time in a week this has happened.
A clip of video went viral of a chunk of concrete hitting another car last Thursday, in what appeared to be similar location along the same stretch of road.
However, Port Authority said it was not the same stretch of roadway.
The driver in that instance wasn’t harmed, but suffered significant damage to his car and said he is filing a claim to get reimbursed for the damage.
“I always wondered about the safety of that section because something already happened,” John Toledo said.
It was Toledo’s dashcam that captured the close call last Thursday. The front end of his car was damaged.

Toledo avoided taking the George Washington Bridge… until Wednesday morning. He was on it just two hours before this most recent incident.
Those who take the road regularly are hopeful that something will be done to prevent any possible tragedies.
“It’s very unfortunate. One of the things that I would have, I guess I hoped for was the fact that it wouldn’t happen to anybody else,” Toledo said.
