Terrifying video captured a reckless gang gun battle on a Bronx street on Wednesday that left a 5-year-old girl grazed by a stray slug to the head.
Footage released by the NYPD shows three suspected ganbangers firing off several rounds as they run from the scene on Southern Avenue in Longwood — with at least two shooting blindly over their shoulders.
The broad-daylight shooting between two warring gangs unfolded along Southern Boulevard in Longwood around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, sending innocent bystanders scattering for cover, sources said.
The unidentified girl, who was listed in stable condition at Harlem Hospital, was caught in the crossfire and grazed on the right side of her head by one of the bullets while standing next to her mom.
The gunmen appeared to have been very close to them when they opened fire, according to the sources.
“I’m shocked,” Beverly Reid, the wounded girl’s neighbor, said Thursday. “I heard it on the news, but wasn’t even thinking it’s my neighbor. I don’t believe this. All this is crazy. I mean, c’mon.
“I’m happy she’s going to be ok,” Reid added. “She is a nice little girl.”
The surveillance video shows two young men out of a larger group running with guns. One hoodie-wearing shooter pointed his gun back as he ran, not even looking where he fired.
Another bandana-donning suspect – with his pants slipping to reveal apparent multi-colored underwear – just barely spun around to shoot behind. His gunshots went sailing over the head of his cowardly fellow shooter.
Neighborhood merchants told The Post that the area is typically flooded with trouble-makers who’ve even threatened store owners.
“I’ve been working here for 20 years and it has gotten worse,” one worker said. “They used to wait until nighttime and hide. Now they are bold. They don’t care about children, people on the sidewalk, people in the parks, a bunch of ladies.
“I feel horrible for the little girl,” she said. “I think she had an angel watching over her.”
Police said all three ran south and remain on the loose.
