Riding the PATH train is getting a bit more expensive starting Monday.
PATH fares are rising a quarter per ride, going from $3 to $3.25. Bundles of 10 trips, 20 trips or 40 trips on TAPP cards will also cost more, increasing from $2.85 per ride to $3.10.
Reduced-fare prices for riders 65 and older and those with disabilities are going up a dime per ticket, from $1.50 to $1.60.
The Port Authority’s board proposed the fare increases last fall and they were approved in December as a way to help pay for infrastructure upgrades and system improvements.
Further 25-cent fare hikes are planned in January 2027, January 2028 and January 2029, according to the agency. By 2029, the cost per ride for the PATH will be $4.
The Port Authority also plans to raise more toll revenue by removing off-peak discounts for EZ-Pass drivers on the agency’s bridges and tunnels next year.
The PATH fare increases come as the Port Authority is increasing service in the transit system. Starting on May 17, seven-day service will return to all four PATH lines for the first time since 2001.
“The resumption of direct weekend service in and out of Hoboken, and the end of the Hoboken detour for Jersey City riders, not only saves time for everyone but also marks a larger turning point for PATH as we position the 118-year-old system for an even more reliable and robust future,” Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia said in a statement.
The Journal Square to 33rd Street line between Jersey City and Midtown will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. PATH trains between Hoboken and the World Trade Center, as well as Hoboken and 33rd Street, will resume weekend service.
The Port Authority said it plans to increase PATH frequency during rush hours and late nights, including operating Friday night service every 20 minutes until 2 a.m., consistent with service on Saturday nights.
