NORTH BERGEN, New Jersey (WABC) — Emergency crews are responding to a freight train derailment in North Bergen, New Jersey, according to officials.
The North Bergen Police Department says the derailment happened near 2501 Tonnelle Ave.
The incident involves a spill from one of the rail cars, and North Bergen Police, Fire Department, and Jersey City Hazmat teams are on the scene assessing the situation, according to officials.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
Officials say there is not confirmed danger to the public, but Hazmat units are working to identify the substance that was released from the impacted rail car.
The derailment is also impacting traffic.
Route 3, eastbound and westbound, is closed near Tonnelle Avenue.
Tonnelle Avenue, northbound and southbound, remains open.
EMS units are also responding.
