EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — A seaplane made a hard landing Sunday afternoon in the East River.
It happened near the NY Skyport at East 23rd Street and FDR Drive around 12:01 p.m.
Eight passengers were removed from the plane by FDNY units and the plane itself was being towed back to a dock, according to the FDNY. Two passengers were treated for minor injuries.
One passenger, Ada Todd, 75, told Eyewitness News from the hospital that she remain ‘in shock, in lots of pain, but happy to be alive.’
“I was just walking to the end and I just see the sea plane flapping in the water,” said Steve Grodewald
According to the FAA, “the pilot of a Kodiak 100 seaplane made a hard landing…causing a wing strut to snap.”
There are reports the sea plane was coming from East Hampton.
Weather conditions were not ideal on Sunday. The NTSB is now investigating the hard landing to determine why the seaplane was not able to make a smooth touchdown
