New Yorkers will argue about pizza until the end of time, but when it comes to burgers, the city now has some serious bragging rights.
A newly released ranking of the World’s 101 Best Burgers placed eight New York spots on its 2026 list, including one West Village newcomer that cracked the global top 10.
The highest-ranked local entry is Sip & Guzzle, which landed at No. 6 worldwide. The cocktail bar has been drawing attention for its over-the-top Miyazaki A5 wagyu burger, a rich creation from chefs Mike Bagale and Isaac Leidenfrost that’s become one of the city’s most talked-about splurges. (The burger is so exclusive that the restaurant reportedly makes just a dozen per service.)
Not far behind is East Village’s Nowon, which claimed the No. 8 spot globally. Chef Jae Lee’s Korean-American restaurant has built a cult following around its “Legendary Burger,” an umami-packed creation topped with kimchi special sauce and honey butter chips.
Bar Chimera ranked No. 24, followed by Sailor at No. 35. Red Hook Tavern, the Brooklyn institution whose thick, dry-aged burger already inspires near-religious devotion among burger fans, came in at No. 63. Further down the ranking, Txula landed at No. 74, Gotham Burger Social Club took No. 80 and Hamburger America wrapped the ranking at No. 88.
This year’s top spot went to Bleecker Burger in London, followed by fellow London favorite Black Bear Burger. Sydney’s Café Margaret rounded out the top three.
Perhaps the biggest surprise? New York actually beat Los Angeles in total appearances. While L.A. landed several spots—including Amboy (No. 9), Camphor (No. 15), Petit Trois (No. 32), Hermon’s (No. 70), Simonette (No. 99) and HiHo Cheeseburger (No. 101)—the five boroughs still managed to put more burgers on the list.
So whether your ideal burger costs $35 and comes with fermented shishito relish or is served on a paper-lined tray in Brooklyn, there’s now international confirmation that New York knows its way around a bun.
