Detectives in the Bronx are on the hunt for the roommate of a man whose rotting body was found inside a home, with a knife still lodged in the corpse, on Wednesday afternoon.
Police sources said the grim discovery was made at 1:44 p.m. on June 3 inside a two-story residence on the 1000 block of Longfellow Ave. in Longwood.
Officers from the 41st Precinct were called to the location after another resident reported smelling a foul odor for several days.

Sources reported that the resident had asked construction workers, who had been working on the building undergoing renovations, to check their neighbor’s apartment. The workers apparently peered through the window and discovered the unidentified man in a state of decomposition, lying on the bed with a knife still lodged in his chest.
Police and EMS ultimately gained access to the department and officially pronounced the man dead. His exact age and identity have not been determined.
Police sources said a roommate who lived with the man in the apartment prior to his death is considered a strong person of interest. Neighbors reported hearing arguments from inside the apartment weeks before the discovery was made on Wednesday.

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation. The person of interest was last seen wearing a black shirt, dark pants and sneakers, police reported.
