Authorities are looking for five people who beat and slashed two people during a Midtown brawl earlier this month that cops described as a “gang assault.”
According to police sources, the incident unfolded when a 24-year-old man and his friend were walking along 7th Avenue and West 33rd Street at around 9:20 p.m. on May 19 when the perpetrators initiated a verbal dispute.
Sources said the words turned violent when members of the group attacked the 24-year-old, punching and kicking him before one of the attackers slashed him in the neck and face with what police described as a cutting instrument.
When his friend tried to break up the brawl, he was punched for his trouble by one of the suspects, cops said. Following the attack, the suspects fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
The incident was reported to the Midtown South Precinct. EMS rushed the 24-year-old male victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and listed in stable condition.
On Wednesday morning, the NYPD released surveillance images of the suspects in hopes someone will recognize them and help detectives track them down.
Anyone with information regarding the incident can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on X (formerly Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
