Police are investigating after a man crossing a Bronx roadway was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday night.
According to law enforcement sources, the tragic incident unfolded at approximately 7:30 p.m. at East 138th Street and Bruckner Boulevard. A 40-year-old man was crossing on the sidewalk from east to west when the light turned green and he was struck by the driver of a tractor-trailer traveling northbound.
The pedestrian fell to the ground and was then hit again, this time by a 2015 Honda CRV that was traveling immediately behind the tractor-trailer. The man was lodged under the car when it came to a stop.
The victim was rushed by EMS to Lincoln Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending proper family notification.
While the 61-year-old man driving the Honda stayed on scene and waited for authorities, the still-unidentified driver of the tractor-trailer fled the scene.
There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad.
