CLAREMONT, The Bronx (WABC) — A 9-year-old boy and his mother are speaking out after a suspect randomly attacked the child in a park in the Bronx earlier this month.
The attack happened inside Grant Park near East 169th Street and Grant Avenue in the Claremont section around 6 p.m. on April 17.
The child was inside the park, where he was playing with his friends, throwing juice at each other. He accidentally got juice on the suspect, who thought it was alcohol, according to the victim.
That’s when the male suspect, a 15-year-old, retaliated, according to police, punching the 9-year-old numerous times in the face and striking him with a cable charger.
“He came back running with the wire in his hand. Then he hit me two times, and then with his fist three times,” the victim said.
The attack left the child with deep gash wounds across his forehead. Another teen in the park took the victim home to his mom, where they called for an ambulance and police.
“When it first happened, I was so dizzy. Then I couldn’t sleep, two or three days,” the victim said.
The little boy said he’s seen the suspect before, but is not friends with him.
Both the mom and son say this suspect is known in the neighborhood for random assaults, having punched both an elderly woman and a child in the past.
The victim says he’s scared to return to the park because the suspect often hangs out there.
The suspect who is 15 years old was arrested on Thursday and charged with assault, police said.
