NASSAU COUNTY, Long Island (WABC) — An active investigation is underway into a shooting that left one person dead, and two others injured at a park on Long Island, according to officials.
Nassau County police closed Eisenhower Park and a whole section of Merric Avenue along the park Wednesday night.
They said three people were shot, including a 15-year-old boy who was killed. Two other victims were taken to the hospital.
Eyewitness News heard from a woman who said her son’s friend, who is 15, is one of the victims. She says her son is 17, and he’s OK. He is cooperating with the police.
Sonia Rincon has details on the union’s vote to authorize a strike on Wednesday.
The mother told Eyewitness News she knew her son would be at the park, and that he and his friends hang there, but he called her Wednesday night and told her to come quickly.
“He just said, ‘my friend just got shot, my friend got shot,’ and we was like, ‘what happened?’ And he was like, ‘I don’t know,'” said the mother, Latesha Bryant. “My stomach is sunken, and I don’t know what’s going on so it’s pretty surreal because you wouldn’t think it would be your own child.”
No further details have been provided on the other victims, or what led up to the shooting.
