One person is dead and another is critically injured after two helicopters collided midair in southern New Jersey on Sunday, according to reports.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the crash occurred around 11:25 a.m., when an Enstrom F-28A helicopter and an Enstrom 280C helicopter collided near Hammonton Municipal Airport in Atlantic County.
Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel told the Associated Press that rescuers responded to the crash site and that police and fire crews extinguished flames engulfing one of the helicopters.
Only the pilots were aboard each aircraft, according to the FAA. One person was killed, while the other was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, the AP reported.
Video posted to social media appeared to show one of the helicopters spinning rapidly to the ground.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating. The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide updates, according to the FAA.
