BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn (WABC) — A 12-year-old boy is recovering after being stabbed, allegedly by another child in Brooklyn on Thursday afternoon.
A tiny but lethal-looking knife sat next to a backpack, jacket and bloody clothes behind crime scene tape in a Brownsville playground after a school fight that sent a 12-year-old to the hospital.
The stabbing happened 2:50 p.m. at the Betsy Head Park near Thomas S Boyland Street and Dumont Avenue in Brownsville.
Sources tell Eyewitness News the boy was jumped, possibly in retaliation for an earlier dispute in Betsy Head Park right near schools.
Police took another 12-year-old and a 9-year-old in for questioning as the park empties out.
Neighbors say the children seem very safe playing right after school.
“And it hurts my heart because no parent should have go through that, hearing your kid was stabbed after school. That’s devastating,” neighbor Jordan Tucker said.
It wasn’t the only place police and paramedics were called to deal with a stabbing involving kids on Thursday.
911 calls described a group of teens fighting near Ridgewood on Seneca Avenue, closer to 5 p.m. Thursday evening.
A 15-year-old and a 13-year-old are in the hospital after another stabbing, police said.
The 12-year-old victim in Brownsville remains in serious but stable condition and the NYPD say charges are pending for two juvenile suspects.
Police have not said if the suspects are the 12-year-old and 9-year-old who were brought in for questioning.
