A lifeless day-old baby dropped off at a Manhattan hospital last year by his mother died of a homicide, police and sources said.
The newborn boy, known only as “John Doe” Santiago-Sanchez, died Nov. 21, 2024, after arriving unconscious and unresponsive at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, police said.

After more than a year, the tragic death was ultimately reclassified as a homicide this week by the city’s medical examiner.
They did not reveal details, however, on the baby’s cause of death.
NYPD officials kept mum on details, but said no arrests have been made.
The infant had been born in his mother’s Hamilton Heights home along West 143rd Street sometime around the day he died, sources and police said.
The mom then carted the still-unnamed boy to the hospital around 5 p.m., where staff called police, sources said.
The city’s medical examiner’s office didn’t return a request for further comment.
