Long Island fire: Firefighters rescue dog from basement after flames destroy Port Washington home

PORT WASHINGTON, Long Island (WABC) — A house on Long Island was lost in a fire, but firefighters found and saved a dog.

The flames tore through a home on White Oak Drive in Port Washington just before 8 p.m. Friday, while the owners were not at home.

Firefighters forced their way into the house, where they discovered the dog named Dee-Jay in the basement. He was unharmed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
