Police are investigating a shooting in the Bronx early on Thursday morning that left a man seriously wounded — and narrowly missed injuring paramedics sitting in a nearby ambulance.
According to police sources, the incident unfolded at around 12:18 a.m. on May 21 outside of an apartment building at 1245 Webster Ave. in Morrisania.
Officers from the 44th Precinct, in responding to a call for assistance at the location, found the victim, an 18-year-old man shot in the abdomen.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unknown and under investigation. While investigating the crime scene, police learned that a stray bullet had struck an ambulance parked across the street, at 1368 Webster Ave., hitting the rear window before exiting through the front.
Two EMS members were in the ambulance at the time, responding to an unrelated incident. They were not injured by the stray shot, police reported.
The 18-year-old victim, meanwhile, was rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition and expected to survive.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
