LINDEN, New Jersey (WABC) — Nearly 20 cars were vandalized in the parking lot of an apartment building in Linden, New Jersey on Monday, and several more were reportedly found in Cranford.
Police say 19 vehicles were vandalized at Brookside Gardens on South Wood Avenue in Linden sometime between 3:30 and 4 a.m.
The rows of parked cars made for easy destruction.
Tenants at Brookside Gardens came out in the morning to discover the violation. In some cases, heavy stone pavers sliced through the glass.
“I heard the banging, I looked out the window and I didn’t see anything. So, I went back to bed,” said victim, Judy Sinfleur. “So, this morning, everyone came out and saw this.”
Sinfleur’s mom also had her car damaged and was quoted more than $800 to fix someone else’s rage.
In Cranford, police said someone threw heavy stone pavers at cars parked on the street, shattering windshields, damaging vehicles and causing expensive headaches for many residents.
“I’m just really saddened to be honest with you like this would happen on our holiday when we’re all trying to get together and celebrate and be happy,” Erin Goldfeder said.
Scott Godfrey’s pickup truck bears the imprint of the paver. There are glass shards all over the inside of his vehicle, and most likely, insurance will not cover the loss.

“This morning, my son picked me up for work,” Godfrey said. “And tomorrow, I’m going to take Uber for work, and then we’ll get it fixed. What can you do?”
His camera captured the moment, but victims need police to capture the vandal.
Detectives believe that a single suspect is responsible for the damage, as well as similar crimes in other towns throughout Union County.
Police in both Linden and Cranford say they are investigating these incidents.
