CORONA, Queens (WABC) — A fire tore through a home in Queens Thursday morning, prompting firefighters to shift their focus to protecting nearby buildings.
The FDNY says a call came in at 10:15 a.m. for a fire on the second floor of a private dwelling on 42nd Avenue in the Corona section, just blocks from Citi Field.
The fire escalated to a second alarm at 10:36 a.m. as heavy flames ripped through the home, which later suffered an interior collapse.
The FDNY says five firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital and a civilian refused medial care.
The fire was under control just before 1:30 p.m.
