The Bronx was rocked by yet another shooting on Monday night after an off-duty officer reportedly shot a man, leaving him clinging to life as of Tuesday morning, sources said.
According to police sources, the shooting happened just after 9 p.m. on March 16 outside the entrance to an apartment building at 167 West 231st St. in Kingsbridge.
Officers from the 50th Precinct rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a man shot at the location. When they arrived, they were told by witnesses that a man had been shot in the head; he was taken via private means to a local hospital for treatment.
Police learned that the victim, a 30-year-old man, had been brought to NewYork Presbyterian Allen Hospital in Manhattan. As of Tuesday morning, he was listed in critical condition.

Sources familiar with the investigation report that an off-duty officer pulled the trigger, yet the circumstances surrounding the shooting are not yet clear. No arrests have been made, but sources say an internal investigation is underway.
Nearly half of all shootings in New York City reported so far this year (45%) have occurred in the Bronx — 44 out of 98 incidents through March 8. Fifty-two victims were injured in the Bronx shootings this year, also accounting for 45% of the citywide shooting victim total (116) through that same period.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch previously admitted that the Bronx has steadily led the way in crime more than any other borough. During her State of the NYPD address last month, she revealed that the department will split Patrol Borough Bronx, which oversees all of the borough’s precincts, into two police sections. This managerial change, expected to take place this spring, will allow the NYPD to bring more cops into the borough.
