ELMHURST, Queens (WABC) — One person was killed and a child is in critical condition after flames tore through a home in Queens.
Flames started on the first floor of the home on 83-32 Dongan Avenue in Elmhurst just before 7 p.m. Monday and quickly rose to the top of the home and spread to neighboring buildings on both sides.
One resident suffered life-threatening injuries and five others suffered minor injuries. Two firefighters also suffered minor injuries.
A firefighter fell trough the floor of the first level of the home and got stuck and was helped to safety.
Over 200 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Flames were still not under control on Monday night, hours after the fire broke out.
