A veteran NYPD lieutenant has been arrested for allegedly swiping a $275 pendant from a designer bag at a high-end yoga apparel store in Manhattan, police and sources said.
Lt. John Ruis allegedly took an “intention crystal” from an Alo Yoga store in Manhattan, a police source said.
The alleged theft was caught on video reviewed by a manager, the source added.
“You can’t make this s–t up,” the source said.
Ruis, 61, who was working a side gig as a security guad at the store, has been with the NYPD’s Crime Prevention Division since last year and was arrested Friday and charged with petit larceny, official misconduct and criminal possession of stolen property, cops said.
He’s suspended from duty without pay, according to an internal NYPD document.
The location of the store and date of the crime weren’t available because the alleged incident is part of an ongoing Internal Affairs Bureau investigation, a police spokesman said.
Ruis didn’t respond to a telephone message.
Ruis, who joined the Force in 1995, made $232,000 last year, publicly available records show.
He also worked in the Bronx’s 49th Precinct, Bronx Court Section and the 104th Precinct during his career.
