NEW YORK (WABC) — Republican Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis has officially appealed the decision that ruled her district must be redrawn, according to filings posted on Monday.
Staten Island has been thrust into the national political spotlight after a New York State Supreme Court judge ruled in favor of Democrats.
The ruling now allows the state to redraw the boundary lines of Congressional District 11.
This redistricting could possibly lead to flipping the only New York City Republican House seat from red to blue.
Malliotakis has demanded that her appeal be ruled on by February 10, or else she will appeal to the Supreme Court of the United States.
She has represented the district since 2021.
