ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Atlantic City police are investigating a stabbing and assault at the Showboat Resort.
It’s an incident the hotel described as an “isolated incident,” though families visiting for spring break said it was concerning.
Police said they were called to the Boardwalk hotel and waterpark destination at 10:37 p.m. Sunday for a report of a stabbing.
On scene, officers found a 38-year-old woman from Maryland who had been assaulted.
Police said a 38-year-old man from Newark, New Jersey, was stabbed but was taken to the hospital by friends. His injuries are not life-threatening.
A Showboat spokesperson said a third person was involved but did not say how.
No arrests have been announced.
Video circulating on social media shows chaos inside the resort late Sunday night. Police said they have viewed the video as part of their investigation. By Monday, the hotel appeared to be operating as usual as guests checked in.
“My first thought is, ‘How fast did security get to the situation before anyone else was involved? Or anyone else got hurt?'” said Paul Water of Long Island, New York, who was checking in with his family.
Another guest, Drew Ingwersen of Clementon, New Jersey, said he and his family were in their hotel room when they noticed the emergency response.
“I heard sirens and we were watching out the window. We saw a fire truck, ambulance, about 15 cop cars,” Ingwersen said.
Ingwersen said the trip had been a fun family vacation, with time spent at the arcade, waterpark and restaurants, but learning about the incident was upsetting.
“Most of these establishments are for adults. This is the one place that’s supposed to be for families. And to bring that kind of violence here is really disappointing,” said Natasha Gonzalez of Clementon, New Jersey.
In a statement, Showboat said it has turned over surveillance video to police and called the incident “an extremely isolated incident,” adding that it takes the safety of guests and staff “very seriously.”
Police said anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact them.
