BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut (WABC) — A man has been charged with murder after a firefighter was shot and killed in Connecticut early Saturday morning.
The deadly shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. on Feeley Street in Stratford.
Upon arrival, responding officers found Terrence Cramer, 41, bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead a short time later by a paramedic on the scene.
According to the Stratford Police Department, Cramer was an active-duty firefighter for the City of Bridgeport for nearly 10 years.
Acting Fire Chief Lance Edwards and the Bridgeport Fire Department released a statement following the announcement of Cramer’s death:
“Chief Edwards and the members of the Bridgeport Fire Department are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Firefighter Terrence Cramer. Firefighter Cramer served the City of Bridgeport with dedication and honor for 9.5 years, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and safety of others. Firefighter Cramer was not only a valued member of our department, but also a friend, colleague, and public servant who will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Firefighter Cramer’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim also expressed his condolences, saying in part, “His service reflects the very best of what it means to wear the uniform and answer the call of duty. He was not only a valued member of our Fire Department, but also a proud public servant whose loss will be felt deeply across our entire city.”
On Saturday afternoon, authorities arrested 41-year-old Jabari Bush in Derby, Connecticut, after a brief motor vehicle pursuit.
Bush is charged with murder, home invasion and criminal possession of a firearm in connection to the shooting. He is being held in lieu of a $2 million bond and is due back in court on Monday, March 30.
