Police are searching for the driver who struck and killed a 44-year-old man on the Upper East Side in a hit-and-run collision early on Friday morning.
Authorities said the deadly incident occurred near the corner of Lexington Avenue and East 61st Street just before 4:55 a.m. on March 20.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police determined that the 44-year-old male victim was struck as he attempted to cross at the intersection by the driver of an unknown vehicle traveling southbound on Lexington Avenue.
Despite hitting the man, police sources said, the unknown driver did not stop and instead fled the scene.

Officers from the 19th Precinct found the victim lying in the roadbed with severe body trauma. EMS rushed him to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet released the man’s identity, pending family notification.
Well after daybreak Friday, police had kept the block of Lexington Avenue between East 61st and 60th Streets sealed off as they combed the scene for evidence.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said. The case is now in the hands of the NYPD Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad.
