UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — Police are searching for a man accused of punching two people on the Upper West Side, including one woman who shared details about the terrifying encounter.
It happened Tuesday around 8:15 p.m. in the area of West 60th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.
Authorities say the man allegedly sucker punched a 27-year-old woman, who works as a sale representative, as she walked from the subway.
Eyewitness News spoke to her, but she asked not to be identified.
“It was like started bleeding and then I decided like to run,” the victim said.
She was running as fast as she could to get away from the suspect.
“Like a guy randomly from, like, nowhere, punched my face so hard and it was a complete surprise,” she said. “So, and he was also yelling at me, but I couldn’t understand and hear perfectly what he said.”
Two minutes later, at 8:17 pm, the NYPD says the same guy punched a 31-year-old woman, medical professional, in her face, causing her to fall to the ground.
Eyewitness News asked the 27-year-old victim if she saw the other victim get punched.
“No. I learned maybe two minutes of different something, so yeah, I know, but I didn’t see anyone,” she said.
She said she had no idea the suspect had punched another woman within two minutes of her attack, and just a few feet from where she was hit. She said she just wanted to get out of there.
“I cried because I was so shocked,” she said. “And I was very shaken.”
Both victims suffered minor injuries.
This happened right near John Jay College in Mount Sinai West, where lots of medical professionals and college students are always walking around at all times a day and night
“I feel like just being self aware, I’m very self-aware. I don’t even have both my headphones on, like I’m always aware of my surroundings and stuff so I mean anything can happen at any moment,” said Delilah Allen, a student.
The man is described as having a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a tan jacket.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
