NEW JERSEY (WABC) — It’s been more than a month since a driver slammed into a woman from Caldwell and left her to die.
On Thursday, her friends and loved ones hope that sharing Sharon Thomas’ story will help raise awareness and lead police on the right path to find the person responsible.
“The night that I found out my sister passed, it just changed all our lives.” Allison David, her sister, said.
Sharon Thomas was 57 years old and the mother of 13-year-old Nicholas.
She was struck on Bloomfield Avenue by a driver who, according to the witnesses, got out of the car, saw her severely injured and took off.
Shortly after, another car struck her as she lay there helpless in the street.
“At her funeral, I say she had 40 best friends. She just gave herself to everybody,” David said.
“We just want justice for her and her son and everybody that loved her,” her friend Yolanda McFadden said.
Sharon had taken a bus to Caldwell to visit Todd Adams and his family.
He says she was the love of his life. She had texted him to say she had arrived.
“Half an hour went by and she didn’t come through the door and I came down and saw everything that happened out here,” her fiancé, Todd Adams, said.
The driver of the second car, who struck her, stopped and called the police, but one hour later, Thomas was pronounced dead.
Her loved ones struggle to understand how someone could leave her out there.
The 400 block area of Bloomfield Avenue through Caldwell is notoriously dangerous and part of the road is near a blind curve.
“In a months’ time, we’ve had 2 accidents. Last year, our barber was stuck like this corner is crazy. It’s dangerous. We need a walkway and a light,” Adams said.
Sharon Thomas’ family is hoping someone will call the police with a tip or that the first driver will come forward.
“I want you to turn yourself in. I don’t understand what kind of callous, cold, inhumane person you could be,” Adams said.
