If Mayor Zohran Mamdani really does tap Angela Burton to become New York City’s child-protection chief, he’ll be knowingly protecting child abusers.
Burton is telling allies that she has the job in the bag, The Post reports, as she does the final rounds of interviews — which raises the question of what lunatics are interviewing her to run the Administration for Children’s Services.
She’s open about her radical beliefs that the nation’s child-protection system resembles “chattel slavery”; her top priority at ACS won’t be keeping children safe but dismantling an agency that, in her eyes, “advances an insidious tradition of global Afrophobia” that is “implementing a Slow Genocide against Black people in America.”
This claptrap would just be eyerolling if children’s lives weren’t at stake.
Yes, 87% of “emergency removals” in the child welfare system involve black or Latino families, but the grim fact is that an overwhelming percentage of children who die from abuse or neglect are black or Latino.
Meanwhile, the ACS workforce has a higher proportion of black employees than any other city agency: Nearly 60%, including case workers and investigators, and mostly women.
It’s hard to believe that the black women who choose to become child welfare specialists go into this thankless and difficult profession in order to persecute black parents in the name of “global Afrophobia.”
Angela Burton is a rank ideologue, incapable of running a social-service agency unlesss the goal is to leave more children in abusive situations and see more kids die.
Let her get a job in academia, where her word games won’t directly impact the lives and safety of innocents, but keep her as far away from real children as possible.
