MELVILLE, New York (WABC) — A Melville child therapist faces a mandatory minimum of five years in federal prison after she was found in possession of “well over 100” files of “exceptionally violent child pornography.”
Federal prosecutors are seeking more than 12 years in federal prison when 37-year-old Renee Hoberman when is sentenced at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon in Central Islip.
Hoberman pleaded guilty in June to receipt and distribution of child sexual abuse material.
Investigators found more than 100 photos and videos depicting child sex abuse on Hoberman’s devices and estimate she may have exchanged more than 600 photos and videos of child sexual abuse before her arrest.
Her attorney asked the judge for the minimum sentence, citing “years of trauma, addiction, and mental health struggles, but while in jail she has engaged seriously in treatment and begun meaningful rehabilitation.”
The attorney said she and her family are “praying for compassion and mercy on Friday.”
