NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — Additional cold-weather-related deaths have been confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s Office after the recent bitter cold snap in our area.
Seven people have died inside private residences from hypothermia throughout the city, and all were accidental, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
An additional outdoor death has been reported under the Manhattan Bridge on Tuesday night, city officials say. That brings the death toll to 19 outdoor weather-related deaths.
“Out of an abundance of caution-and to protect New Yorkers during this brutal stretch of cold- the city is keeping all cold blue protocols in place, which means we will continue expanded outreach, increased warming center capacity, and coordinated PSAs with LinkNYC through the end of this week,” a City Hall official said.
Residents are urged to call 311 if they see someone in need.
