UPPER WEST SIDE (WABC) — A parish on the Upper West Side will stay open thanks to an agreement with developers and new affordable housing.
Rockefeller Group and Atlas Capital Group announced they will acquire the Church of Holy Name of Jesus and develop a mixed-income rental building on part of the property.
This is on West 97th and Amsterdam.
The $96 million transaction is expected to close next spring.
The development will preserve the Roman Catholic Church of Holy Name of Jesus and Saint Gregory the Great and its rectory.
The project will redevelop only underutilized portions of the church campus, including the former school, convent and recreation buildings, while the church continues its ministry.
