SAN FRANCISCO — The young mountain lion that was spotted roaming around a San Francisco neighborhood has been located, according to a city alert.
An ALERTSF notice says that Animal Care & Control and Fish & Wildlife personnel are on scene “managing the situation.”
The mountain lion was caught on video in the Pacific Heights neighborhood on Sunday night.
Officials say on Tuesday morning, the mountain lion was hunkered down in a garden or courtyard area behind a fence in between two apartment buildings.
Experts believe it is young, at about a year old, and got a bit lost.
Mountain lions disperse around this age, seeking a habitat far away from their birthplace.
In this case, experts said the mountain lion will likely find its way south and out of San Francisco. But one man walking his dogs says he’ll be avoiding the park for now.
“We love to see things like this like so much wildlife in the city. But a little bit concerned because you know little puppies. So we are not coming in until we know everything is safe,” said Manuel Cases, San Francisco resident.
San Francisco Animal Care and Control says if you see a mountain lion, do not go near it.
Back away slowly, and do not run.
