Marvel Television is giving us a new superhero story.
It’s called “Wonder Man” and is set in the world of Hollywood.
On The Red Carpet’s George Pennacchio spoke to the cast ahead of the show’s premiere.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays budding actor Simon Williams, who’s desperate to be cast to play “Wonder Man” in a new superhero movie. And we’ll learn he may be more than qualified for the role.
“What I really do enjoy…about this show is introducing people who have no idea what we do as an actor to a little bit of what it’s like to be an actor trying to get a job,” Abdul-Mateen said.
Simon befriends fellow actor Trevor Slattery, played by Sir Ben Kingsley, a character with a little bit of mystery. Kingsley loves the show and what he calls its clever concept.
“These are such beautifully written characters with their vulnerabilities and their tremendous strengths that every day we find a different layer in the character,” Kingsley said. “And every episode touched on that different layer too, so very exciting journey.”
“Wonder Man” is not your typical superhero story. There’s more comedy and drama and less action.
“It definitely is a look at the actor’s life, you know, from the ground up. From the struggling actor and the people who are just, you know, struggling to make that dream happen for years and years and years,” said co-creator and director Destin Daniel Cretton.
“It will culminate in something emotional and unique and unexpected,” said co-creator and writer Andrew Guest.
All eight episodes of “Wonder Man” stream on Disney+ Tuesday.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Marvel Studios and this ABC station.
