Like mother, like daughter.
Goldie Hawn has opened up about her daughter, Kate Hudson, and why their family is “so deeply proud” of the “Almost Famous” star.
“We’re so deeply, deeply proud – not a word I use very often – but I’m in awe of Kate, and I think we all are,” Hawn, 80, said while discussing Hudson’s latest role in “Song Sung Blue” during a joint interview with People published Sunday.
“Kate’s her own thing. I was lucky to carry this little one in my belly and bring her to the world, and that’s what I’m grateful for,” the Oscar-winning actress gushed. “She never stops to surprise me or any of us with her talent.”
Hudson, 46, stars in the Craig Brewer-directed biopic alongside Hugh Jackman.
Released on Dec. 25 and based on the 2008 documentary of the same name, the film centers on the love story between Claire (Hudson) and Mike Sardina (Jackman) and their time together in the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder.
Hudson’s performance as Claire earned her nominations for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the 2026 Golden Globes and for Best Female Actor in a Leading Role at the 2026 Actor Awards.
“It’s instinct. It isn’t learning. We all live together. We’re a family together. And we have genetics that are very similar,” Hawn said regarding her daughter’s talent. “We learn by example. We don’t learn by oration, rhetoric, none of that.”
“Kate obviously comes from two people who make movies, and with that, you see how we behaved,” the “First Wives Club” actress added.
Hawn and musician Bill Hudson, now 76, welcomed son Oliver into the world in 1976, followed by the “Glass Onion” star in 1979.
The pair were married from 1976 to 1982, and Hawn went on to date Kurt Russell, now 74, in 1983. Although the “Overboard” co-stars have not tied the knot, they’ve been together ever since and share actor Wyatt Russell, 39, together.
“It’s balance – your life, your family, your kids, your things you want to do, and you care about. Books that we’re reading, we share that,” Hawn explained. “There’s a lot of other things in life that are meaningful.”
“Our work is part of what we do, and it isn’t who we are, and those are two different things,” she added.
Hudson, meanwhile, touched upon why she and her famous mom still haven’t starred in a film together – and what she would be willing to do to make such a project happen.
“I hope so! It’s got to!” the “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” actress told the outlet during her and Hawn’s joint interview. “I might have to go disappear into the mountains somewhere and just write it myself.”
Hudson previously opened up about her nearly 30-year career in Hollywood and the “biggest gift” she’s received so far during a “Song Sung Blue” premiere back in October.
“I think the first thing that comes to mind is the people that I’ve met, the connections, they always feel like my biggest gifts,” she shared.
“I feel so lucky to be involved in a world of people that are just so endlessly fascinating and intelligent and wild and live outside of – even if they strive – to live outside of the norm,” Hudson added.
