BETHPAGE, Long Island (WABC) — Harrowing details were revealed during an arraignment on Tuesday for a man accused of stabbing his parents to death inside the family’s deli on Long Island.
The suspect, 30-year-old Vito D’Ambrosio, was indicted on a first-degree murder charge for allegedly stabbing his parents to death on Dec. 4.
Nassau County prosecutors said D’Ambrosio told responding officers he fatally stabbed his parents because he “thought the Lord was talking” to him.
They said he grabbed a 14-inch chef’s knife and killed them inside the family’s Bethpage deli. Vito then dialed 911 to report himself to police.
“‘I killed my mother and father. I stabbed them both in the throat. They are in the deli. They are not breathing. I left the knife in the deli. My hands got a little cut. All they did to me is on TikTok. I confessed everything on TikTok,'” he said to responding officers, according to prosecutors. “‘I deserve to go to jail. I deserve life sentences. They didn’t deserve this. I had life handed to me.”
Veto told police that he was living in his car at the time of the murders.
Prosecutors said his parents kicked him out of their home after he was charged with the forcible touching of his sister. He allegedly hit her buttocks, then made a sexual overture toward her, prosecutors said.
He appeared in court on those charges nine days before the murder, and an order of protection was issued.
On Nov. 25, a district court judge released him with an ankle monitor, against prosecutors’ recommendations and ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation.
He said that he “snapped” because they kicked him out of the house and “the Lord was talking to him,” prosecutors said.
He pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday, and is due back on Jan. 30.
His lawyers requested a mental evaluation for their client and maintained his right to a fair trial.
Nassau District Attorney Anne Donnelly compared the killing to the murder of “The Princess Bride” director Rob Reiner and his wife, fatally stabbed by their son in their Los Angeles home.
