NEW YORK (WABC) — Popular bicycle and e-bike rental company Citi Bike is raising its prices for a fifth year in a row.
Citi Bike cited rising tariffs as a major factor behind the decision.
“This adjustment is necessary to manage increased operational expenses, including the impact of rising tariffs,” the company stated, adding that 250 new stations, equipment upgrades, and other rising operational costs also contributed to the price hikes.
On Jan 5, e-bike fees will increase to 27 cents per minute in New York City and 23 cents in New Jersey.
On Jan. 28, the cost of annual memberships will increase to $239 a year, a roughly 9% increase from the current amount.
For reduced-fare members, monthly memberships will still cost $5 a month, but e-bike fees will go up to 14 cents per minute.
Overage fees for traditional bikes will rise to 27 cents per minute.
The new fee cap for annual members will be $5.40 for up to 45-minute e-bike rides entering or exiting Manhattan.
For non-members, fees in NYC will increase to 41 cents per minute. And in New Jersey, prices will rise to 35 cents per minute.
Members will continue not to pay any unlock fees to start their rides, which are $4.99 for non-members.
Here’s a detailed breakdown:
For Annual Members
Annual membership increases to $239/year (effective Jan 28, 2026).
For members who receive a subsidized membership through their employer through Citi Bike for Business, memberships will be $191/year.
E-bike fees and classic bike overage fees (NYC): Increase to $0.27 per minute (effective Jan 5, 2026).
E-bike fees and classic bike overage fees (NJ): Increase to $0.23 per minute (effective Jan 5, 2026).
Fee cap: Increases to $5.40 for 45-minutes-or-less e-bike rides that enter or exit Manhattan.
For Reduced-Fare Bike Share Members
E-bike fees: Increase to $0.14 per minute.
Classic bike overage fees: Increase to $0.27 per minute.
For non-members (Single Ride & Day Pass)
E-bike fees and classic bike overage fees (NYC): Increase to $0.41 per minute.
E-bike fees and classic bike overage fees (NJ): Increase to $0.35 per minute.
