NEW YORK (WABC) — A local NFL star is not just giving his time, but also a special gift to children being treated in the hospital.
New York Giants Quarterback Russell Wilson visits the Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital on the Upper East Side every Tuesday.
Wilson is a bit like Santa Claus in bringing gifts and good cheers to patients at Mount Sinai. Now the quarterback and his wife, singer Ciara, are making a $3 million contribution through their Why Not You Foundation.
The funding will help create new therapeutic play and creative arts spaces for pediatric patients.
“You know, my dad was unfortunately always in the hospital, he had diabetes. My mom was an ER nurse when I was growing up. So, for me, I felt like, how I could make a difference somewhere,” Wilson told ABC’s Will Reeve on Good Morning America.
Part of the donation will also go towards upgrading a common area known as “The Zone,” which is a space where kids can go be themselves with no doctors allowed.
