YONKERS, New York (WABC) — An MTA driver is recovering from her injuries after the bus she was driving crashed into a storefront deli in Westchester County on Friday afternoon.
The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. at the corner of Warburton Avenue and Ashburton Avenue in Yonkers.
Upon arrival, police officers and firefighters observed that the bus struck the storefront. Two other cars, which were parked and unoccupied, were also struck during the collision.
The bus, which operates on a Bronx route, had just left an MTA depot in Yonkers, officials said.
The driver of the bus suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. First responders transported her to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash.
Officials on scene are now assessing the structural integrity of the building that was crashed into. Warburton Avenue between Ashburton Avenue and Wells Avenue in the meantime remains closed to traffic until further notice.
Authorities are now trying to determine what led up to the crash.
