NEW YORK (WABC) — As Christmas quickly approaches, the holiday travel rush is in full swing.
AAA says they expect more than 120 million Americans to hit the roads, rails, and skies through New Year’s Day.
We can expect busy roads and skies this holiday season, but with a chance of snow Tuesday, it could make things tricky.
AAA projects more than 109 million Americans will travel by car and more than 8 million will take domestic flights.
If you’re driving and planning a road trip Monday or Tuesday, the best time to travel is before 10 a.m., and the worst is between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Friday, December 26, is expected to be busy as travelers make their way home after Christmas.
If you’re flying, airports are expected to be packed this week, and flights cost more this year.
According to AAA data, based on what travelers paid when they booked their holiday trips, a roundtrip domestic flight is more expensive this year at nearly $900 a ticket.
You’ll want to give yourself extra time at airports this week, and the TSA recommends keeping your Christmas gifts unwrapped to make the security screening process easier.
The FAA expects more than 440,000 flights in the skies from December 18 through Saturday, December 27.
With the chance of snow, keep an eye on your flight information for any potential delays or cancellations.
You can expect the weekend after New Year’s to also be busy.
