An updated report from the National Weather Service was issued on Friday at 9:35 p.m. for heavy snow until 10:15 p.m. for Southern Fulton, Western Schenectady, Eastern Schenectady, Southern Saratoga and Eastern Albany as well as Montgomery County.
“At 9:35 p.m., a band of heavy snow was along a line extending from 6 miles north of Springfield to Scotia and moving east at 50 MPH,” says the weather service.
Locations impacted by the alert include Albany, Schenectady, Clifton Park, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Cohoes, Watervliet, Johnstown, Colonie, Scotia, Canajoharie, Fonda, Latham, Guilderland, Glenville, Niskayuna, Duanesburg, Menands, Green Island and Fort Plain. This includes the following highways: Interstate 88 between exits 24 and 25. Interstate 90 between exits 6A and 29. Interstate 890 between exits 1a and 9. Interstate 87 between exits 24 and 7, and between exits 8A and 10. Interstate 787 between exits 5 and 9.
According to the weather service, “Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.”
