INWOOD, New York (WABC) — Subway service is still impacted in Upper Manhattan after an accident involving an MTA crane and a bridge.
If you were taking the No. 1 train uptown to Inwood or the Bronx on Wednesday afternoon and evening, you could still get there but it took much longer.
The MTA is still working to remove a piece of equipment that got stuck both on and in the Broadway Bridge over the Spuyten Duyvil Creek.
Citizen aapp video showed the crane on an MTA work train that poked a hole and got lodged in the top of the Broadway Bridge connecting the tip of the Manhattan to Marble Hill around 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Two MTA workers were taken to a hospital to be checked out for minor injuries.
MTA Crews have been working on a plan to safely remove it as uptown trains had to reroute and riders ended up with a much slower commute.
Riders had to go all the way up to 242nd Van Cortlandt Park if they wanted to go anywhere north of Dyckman Street and wait for the train to turn around and come back to their stop in between.
“Like an hour and 45 minutes. Going to Van Cortlandt Park and coming back down. Disaster. Disaster. Very disappointed,” one rider said.
There was a traffic jam of trains having to wait at Dyckman Street.
On Thursday, the hope is that the problem will be solved. The MTA is not only working to resolve the issue, but they are investigating how it happened.
