NEW YORK (WABC) — Many of us are looking to pick up side hustles so we have more dough to roll into holiday fun.
But, before you take that job offer, behind door number four in our 12 Scams of Christmas is seasonal temporary job offers.
Plenty of real retailers and employers are hiring extra hands for their busiest season and scammers are busy stealing business logos.
They’re also bombing inboxes with phony job offers that look legit.
Fake offers all have one thing in common, they want you to pay money to make money asking you to pay upfront for phone, laptop, or training materials.
Sometimes they send you a check and they want you to forward a portion to a coworker or purchase something and send it back to them, then the check bounces and you’re out your hard earned cash.
One phony text offers that you’ll make up to $1,100 an hour for working 30 to 60 minutes a day with no experience necessary. Give me a break! If you get any of these delete!
Job scams are up nearly 1,000%. The average worker trying to get a job reports losing $1,471 each. That will certainly put in a dent if not wipe out in your holiday budget.
